Then I was blown away by the Grand Canyon, it was MASSIVELY bigger than I ever expected, with layers upon layers upon layers of these massive cliffs. I really had no true perspective about the sheer size and incredible geological diversity we have here until that trip. 🇺🇸

Then in 2023 Mayor La Toya Cantrell had this, Alleged affair: Cantrell and her bodyguard, NOPD officer Jeffrey Vappie, had an affair, according to accusations by Vappie's wife in divorce filings. So yes this is a very corrupt area with a long history of mishandling money. (In California, they just lose millions without any idea where it went).

Suggestion...Spike Lee made 2 documentary series about Katrina. They're titled "When the Levees Broke" (2005) & "If God is Willing and Da Creek don't Rise" (2010/11). He interviews various citizens of the greater New Orleans area & Mississippi. Spike then goes back to New Orleans 5 years after Katrina. Very, very eye opening. You should watch if you want an honest view from the people that survived the storm.

I remember exactly where I was. At a Giant Eagle grocery store, working in the host sun as a parking lot/cart mule. My back hurt, my brow was drenched in sweat and I had just gotten my chicken tender Mac and cheese lunch. It's not a excuse for the behaviour, but good luck living in America without a vehicle. It's one of the reasons why we have so many uninsured and revoked drivers on the roads. Since finding transport to work and the like would be too much of an inconvenience to them, many will gamble that they won't get pulled over and discovered. After awhile of not getting caught they forget that they're even chancing anything.

It was a classic screw up at all levels of government. There were parish EMS leaders who were crying on TV for help. Older people drowning in nursing homes. Police/fire personnel abandoning their positions. Flood waters so high people were breaking through their roofs to get on top of their houses to be rescued. Corruption in Louisiana--really? Huge swaths of the population displaced to other states. The whole pet recovery was despicable. So many people were never reunited with their pets. Consider reading 'The Great Deluge'--I found it terrifying--had nightmares. When the media lost attention, I still had staff use vacation time to head to NOLA and Mississippi for faith-based mission work to help re-build--for years. Ahhh, Kabir, such an innocent with respect to interacting with the Federal government. There is NEVER a simple process working with them for anything.

The lack of response to Hurricane Katrina was what made me loose trust in our government. Corpses in the streets, people stranded… Who shows up to help? Mexico and Canada. People were put on buses (they were forced to leave their pets to die) not knowing where they were being taken all over the country. Families were separated which took them months to find each other.

This is what makes America great, this is what we do for one another. We don’t wait for others, we just step up and help.

I lived in Chicago for 6 months. I only had to drive for my job and yeah..drivers were super aggressive. As soon as the light turns green the expectation is that you are moving, if you dont move within 2 seconds people will be honking at you even if theres still cars in the intersection. If youre driving on the loop, the posted speed when i was there was 55 but i dont think i ever went slower than 85mph and people were still flying past me. So yes, take the bus or the trains.
